When I’m asked what makes us unique as a community bank, I could name many qualities. They include friendly staff, sophisticated services such as an online small business loan application process, as well as the many ways we support our communities. But I believe the true difference lies in the details we know and value about our customers:
We welcome dogs in our branches because we know they’re part of your family. One customer stops by several times a week with his dog, Abbey. Even though the man is the actual customer, his four-legged companion gets most of our attention. Our staff always shout out happy greetings and vie for whose turn it is to give her treats. One day it was the customer’s daughter who brought Abbey to the bank. She was tickled to see that Abbey was so familiar with the branch, had a routine, and knew exactly where to go to get her dog treats.
We enjoy fulfilling customers’ needs. Sometimes that means providing their favorite candy. One of our customers said he enjoys visiting our branch, because our candy bowls include bubble gum flavored lollipops, which he loves. When we learned that the candy company discontinued that kind of lollipop we knew it would disappoint the customer. So I checked Amazon and purchased a bag of the lollipops just for him. Now, besides the great service we hope he enjoys here, he’ll also have his favorite candy.
At a time when banks are becoming bigger and more impersonal, we believe that learning what’s important to customers – down to the smallest detail – is as important as providing easy and efficient services. We like to think that Tompkins VIST Bank offers both.
